この1か月でAIが本当に変えたこと

いま社内では、今年度の年末調整対応のソフトウェア開発を進めています。今年は法改正が多く、新しい税制のポイントを一つひとつ正確に反映するには、膨大な資料を読み込む必要があります。コードを一行書き始める前に、何日も溶けていく——以前ならそういう作業でした。

その資料の山と格闘して数日が経った頃、ふと思いました。「これ、AIに手伝ってもらえないだろうか」と。

そこで資料の一部をAIに渡し、3つのことを頼みました。まず読み込むこと、次に私たちが直面する課題を洗い出すこと、そしてそれをエンジニア向けのタスクに整理すること。さらに、実際のコードベースを見て、点と点をつないでもらいました。

もちろん魔法ではありません。AIは今でも、何もないところから事実らしきものを作り出すことがあります。以前より減ったとはいえ、ゼロではない。だから私たちは、出力を細かく確認します。それでも、AIの成果物をレビューするほうが、ゼロから作るよりはるかに速いのです。

そして外国人である私にとって、難解な日本語の法令文書と向き合うこの場面で、これは本当に大きな変化でした。理解できない箇所があれば、「すみません、私の頭ではちょっと難しいので、噛み砕いて教えてください」と正直に言うだけ。そうすれば、ちゃんと分解して説明してくれます。

現実的に見て、これは10日分ほどの作業でした。それが、AIが動く一つの午後と、私たちがレビューする1日ほどに変わりました。Claude CodeやCodexといったツールは、プロジェクトマネジメントのあり方を確実に変えたと思います。

最初は少し怖かった。仕事を奪われるように感じたからです。でも、もう後戻りする気にはなりません。本当に、戻る理由がないのです。

What AI actually changed for us this month

Right now my team is preparing our year-end tax adjustment software, and this year the law changed in a lot of places. Getting every new tax point exactly right means going through a mountain of documentation — the kind of work that used to eat days before you'd written a single line of code.

We were a few days into that slog when I thought: let's see if AI can help.

So I fed it part of the documentation and asked for three things — read it, list the specific challenges we'd face, and organize those into tasks for the engineers. Then I asked it to look into our actual codebase and start connecting the dots.

It's not magic. AI still invents things out of nowhere sometimes — less than before, but it happens — so we review everything in detail. The difference is that reviewing AI's work is far faster than building from scratch.

And as a foreigner dealing with dense Japanese regulatory text, this genuinely changed things for me. When I don't understand something, I just tell it "I'm too dumb to get this," and it breaks it down.

Realistically, this was about 10 days of work. It became one afternoon of AI doing, and about a day of us reviewing. Tools like Claude Code and Codex have changed project management for good.

I was afraid at first — it felt like it was taking jobs. But it's not worth going back. Really, it isn't.
