インターンを受け入れませんか？

今日、お話ししたいのは「インターン」のことです。

ここ数年、一緒に仕事をしている Sekaia という会社があります。私はそこのメンバーが本当に好きなんです。

もちろん、彼らも利益を出して事業を成長させたいと考えています。それは当たり前のこと。でも同時に、海外の学生を日本へ、日本の学生を海外へ送り出すことで、日本のビジネスを少しずつグローバルに変えていこうとしています。その姿勢を私はとても尊敬しています。

私たちもこれまで何年もSekaiaのインターン生を受け入れてきて、先日も新しい学生たちを迎えました。

インターンは、すぐに会社の戦力になるわけではありません。仕事を教えたり、サポートしたり、時間も手間もかかります。

でも、それ以上に得られるものがあります。

普段は英語を話す機会の少ない日本人スタッフが、一生懸命英語で話しかけてみる。インターン生も、覚えたての日本語で返してくれる。お互いに失敗を気にせずコミュニケーションを楽しめる空気があって、その場にいるみんなが自然と笑顔になります。

実際、一緒に働いたメンバーはみんな、「いい刺激をもらえた」「また受け入れたい」と言っています。

今回この投稿を書いたのには理由があります。

本来は1名のインターン生を受け入れる予定だったのですが、受け入れ予定だった別の企業が直前でキャンセルしてしまい、日本に来ている優秀な学生たちの中に、まだ受け入れ先が決まっていない人がいます。

そこで、私たちは予定を変更し、追加で受け入れることにしました。

Third thing on my mind today: interns.

There's a company I've worked with for a few years called Sekaia. I like the people there a lot. They want to make money and grow their business — no shame in that — but they do it while bringing foreign students to Japan and sending Japanese students out into the world. They're quietly making the business culture here more global, and I respect that.

We've hosted their students for years, and we just welcomed a new batch. Do interns bring immediate monetary value? Not really — you have to teach them, guide them, be patient. But the energy is something else. Our Japanese team members who rarely get to practice English suddenly find themselves trying out their words, and the interns attempt their first Japanese back. Everyone's allowed to make mistakes. It's genuinely fun, and everyone who works with these kids walks away more energized.

Here's why I'm posting: we were set to receive one student, but another company that had committed to hosting backed out at the last minute. So there are talented young people already here in Japan without a placement.

We're now open to receiving more — and if your company might have room, I'd be glad to introduce you to Sekaia. Maybe not this year, but next summer or winter. If it's something you'd consider, reach out.
